Download the App¶
After downloading, you will need to accept the Agreement Between User and Boundless to continue.
Logging in to Anywhere is fast and easy. Add the URL for your Boundless Exchange site, and select Next. Note: The connection information for Anywhere requires the use of https.
A green checkmark will indicate the site you’ve entered is correct. Select the orange login button to enter your username and password information.
Anywhere uses an authentication method similar to how your email username and password can be used for multiple applications. It uses a token-based authentication and authorization tool, which allows your account to be used by outside application, without exposing your password.
Note: If you are working in an offline mode, you will still be able to login to Boundless Anywhere, as long as you have previously logged in with the same credentials.
Don’t remember your password? No problem! Ensure you’ve entered a valid Exchange URL, and select the Reset Password button. You’ll be asked to enter your email address, and we will send you an email containing a link to reset it.
All of the layers which you have read/write access to through Boundless Exchange will be listed in the Layers section of Anywhere. These could be layers you’ve created, or those you’ve been given permission to access by another user.
Pull down on the Layers screen to refresh the list, and get the latest layers and metadata from Exchange.
Find specific layers by typing a search term in the textbox. Additionally, search layers by title, geometry type, or attributes. Anywhere will automatically filter the search results.
Anywhere lets you download layers for use offline, or during low bandwidth operations.
If you’d like to cancel the download before it has finished, tap the download again, and select Yes.
Touch the circle to remove a downloaded layer from your device. Confirm its removal. A confirmation will pop up at the top of the Layers screen indicating the layer was removed. Or, touch Cancel on the removal confirmation dialog to keep the downloaded layer on your device.
Select the Settings link in the upper right corner of the screen to open the Settings for the Anywhere app.
The Exchange URL for the site that is linked with the Anywhere app is listed near the top of the screen. It displays the instance hosting your datasets, as well as your username. Select the link to open Exchange on your device’s web browser.
Accessing the Exchange web site from a user’s device provides fast and easy access to all of the data available on Exchange. Exchange users with administrator privileges can update layer permissions to allow users access to additional layers, whether they are at their desk, or in the field.
The View Changes link displays all changes made to any of the layers. The individual changes are listed, as are any changes made offline that need to be synced with Exchange. Tap the individual edit to see it on the map.
Touch the Unsynced button to display only those changes which have not yet been synced with Exchange.
Tap the SYNC ALL link to sync all changes with Exchange. Confirm by selecting OK.
Refresh and Remove Data¶
Selecting Refresh will download any new layers and metadata from Exchange to the user’s device. This ensures all metadata and layer information is as current as possible.
To remove all locally downloaded feature data, base maps and unsynced changes from the Anywhere app, select the Remove All Data link. It is important to note this will not remove the layer metadata or user changes. Tap Remove to verify your selection.
Because Boundless Anywhere uses Mapbox resources (SDK and basemap), Anywhere collects and sends anonymous usage data about the map and your device location to Mapbox. Tap the green slider button to disable this telemetry collection.
For more information on Mapbox telemetry collection, please visit: https://www.mapbox.com/telemetry/
View the Anywhere documentation on Boundless Connect by selecting on the link.
Select Logout to logout of the application. Data is not removed from the device when you log out.
Using the Map Functions¶
Anywhere offers users the ability to collect, edit or delete data wherever you are. The map interface is intuitive and easy to use.
Select a layer from the list to open it in the map. All layer features will display, and the map options will be available in the upper right corner.
A blue pulsing dot will center on the map over your location.
Note: When operating offline, the current location feature will work, but if you do not have map coverage downloaded for that area, you will not have a basemap available.
Add a Feature to the Map¶
Note: Anywhere is able to display and edit attributes for point, line, and polygon layers. Location changes and new features can only be added to point layers at this time.
A green mark will center on the map. Drag the map to the new point location, and tap the check mark . If you are working in an offline mode, the new point will display as a purple dot, indicating it has not been synced with Exchange.
Select the back arrow to cancel the feature.
The feature attribute form will open below the map, which corresponds directly to the attributes available for the layer in Exchange.
Fill in all necessary information, and tap the check mark to save and sync the feature with Boundless Exchange.
Edit an Existing Feature¶
Editing a feature within Anywhere is fast and easy.
Edit Point Feature Location¶
Edit Feature Attributes¶
Touch on the feature you’d like to edit, and select the pencil icon to begin editing. The selected feature will be highlighted in yellow. Scroll to the attribute field to be edited, and tap it to make your changes.
Fill in any updated information for the feature, and tap the check mark to submit your changes. You will be notified that the feature has saved and synced with Boundless Exchange.
Scan a Barcode¶
Anywhere allows users to scan barcodes, and add them to any Exchange layer with a barcode attribute field. Barcodes provide companies a way to track and store information about their products, from individual items to entire inventories. They serve an important role, and the Anywhere app makes capturing that data easy.
Anywhere is able to scan thirteen different types of codes, including:
- ean13 (iOS converts upca barcodes to ean13 by adding a leading 0)
- interleaved2of5 (when available)
- itf14 (when available)
- datamatrix (when available)
Select or add the feature which will get the barcode, and tap the edit icon.
Select the Open Scanner button, and allow Anywhere access to your camera and photos, if prompted.
Move your camera over the barcode until the box outline is framed and focused over the barcode.
Anywhere will automatically register the code, and add it to the attribute field.
The complete workflow looks like this:
Users get a quick visualization of where all of their scanned products are located.
Add a Photo¶
Adding a photo is a great way to add visual context to your features. If the layer has a photo attribute, an option to Add Photo will be available.
Select the Add Photo button, and allow Anywhere access to your camera and photos, if prompted. You can either browse to an existing photo in your library, or use the device’s camera to take a photo.
Once you have chosen the photo, select the check mark . You will be notified that the feature has been saved and synced with Exchange. When you view the feature the next time, a thumbnail of the photo will appear in the attributes field.
If you are working offline, any changes you save will need to be synced once you connect to a network. All changes made offline will be shown in purple on the map. This indicates an edit was made, but has not yet been synced with Exchange.
Once connected to a network, edits can be uploaded in three ways. The first was discussed under View Changes on the Settings page.
From a Layer¶
From the Layer List¶
Touch the Upload button when you are back online to sync changes with Exchange.
Delete a Feature¶
To delete a feature from the layer, touch the feature you’d like to remove, and select the trash can icon. Confirm that you’d like to delete the feature from the device and from Exchange.
You will be notified that the feature has been deleted. The changes will be saved and updated in Exchange with the next sync.
